situated on the quay in the heart of harwich old town the pier offers captivating views across the harbour and the twin estuaries of the stour and orwell rivers - the pier has been owned and run by the milsom family since 1978 and has two restaurants as well as a 14 bedroom hotel - the hapenny brassiere on the ground floor is a relaxed restaurant offering a modern menu - upstairs the harbourside restaurant with its fabulous position and views specialises in seafood- much of which is landed daily in the harbour below - the pier hotel is located in two historic buildings that stand proudly on the quay side of old harwich - the hotels main building - built in the 1850s - houses two celebrated seafood restaurants - the hapenny on the ground floor and the harbourside on the first floor - and seven second-floor bedrooms- most of which overlook the estuary - the year 2000 saw the acquisition of the next door building - formerly the angel public house - which dates back to the 1700s and is now fully refurbished and converted into a further seven bedrooms - there is nothing quite like waking up - opening luxurious curtains and taking in a fresh breath of sea air as the sun rises and the fishermen return - the pier has 14 very different bedrooms each with a unique feel - there are - of course - similarities - crisp white bedding - a choice of products and a well stocked personal bar are standard - please feel free to request as many of our plump fresh pillows as you would like - we need you well rested for breakfast - all 14 bedrooms are carefully furnished with many individual touches and all have private bathrooms - satellite tv - minibars - telephone - welcome tea and coffee tray and - of course - free wi-fi - in addition the family-friendly feel of the hotel continues into the bedrooms with several of them offering sofa beds for accompanying children

head northeast on terminal rd north - at the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto terminal rd south - at the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto thremhall ave - at the roundabout take the 1st exit - go through 1 roundabout and then merge onto a120 via the ramp towards harwich-colchester-chelmsford-a131 - go through 1 roundabout and continue for 16 miles - at the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto coggeshall rd-a120 - continue to follow a120 going through 3 roundabouts for 9 miles - merge onto a12 via the ramp to colchester-harwich for 7 miles - slight left onto a120 - go through 2 roundabouts for 16 miles - at the next roundabout take the 3rd exit and stay on a120 - continue through 4 more roundabouts and 500 yards on your right is the hotel .
